Lincolnshire Life County Cuisine Awards – A Taste of Excellence 2011/12

A glittering evening celebrating the best in county cuisine
Finalists, sponsors and guests joined Lincolnshire Life at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Lincoln to announce the winners of this year’s County Cuisine Awards. Lincolnshire Life was delighted to be there in association with Select Lincolnshire and Tastes of Lincolnshire Partnership, who were also presenting their Food and Drink Awards 2012.

The event was sponsored by DoubleTree by Hilton and Lincolnshire Co-operative, in addition to the sponsors of the ‘Taste of Excellence’ judging categories: Tastes of Lincolnshire and Lincoln College Young Chef of the Year; Heart of Gold Best Tea room or Coffee Shop; Tastes of Lincolnshire Best Pub Food and House of Townend Best Restaurant.

Guests enjoyed a three-course meal featuring local produce and fine wines to accompany each dish. The guest speaker was Tim Nicol, champion for Taste Tideswell, from BBC One’s Village SOS.

YOUNG CHEF OF THE YEAR

Winner:
Chantelle Hughes
The judges commented: “The skill of this young chef shone through, as well as her modesty about what is clearly a great talent for the future.”
Runners-up: Jack Bridges, Luke Marriss, Joshua Vedat and Sarah Watson

HEART OF GOLD BEST TEAROOM OR COFFEE SHOP
Winner:
Stokes High Bridge Café, Lincoln
“Fresh, locally sourced produce, efficient and considerate staff, iconic location and Stokes’ delicious teas and coffees. A menu that pleases with old favourites but also serves contemporary tastes,” was the judges’ verdict.
Runners-up: Delicious, Scunthorpe and Albion Tearoom, Market Rasen

TASTES OF LINCOLNSHIRE BEST PUB FOOD
Winner:
Inn on the Green, Ingham
The judges noted: “It was the menu and food which decided this closely contested category, with the Inn on the Green impressing the judges with every dish and course served.”
Runners-up: The Five Bells, Bassingham and The Three Kings, Threekingham

HOUSE OF TOWNEND BEST RESTAURANT – presented by David Archibold of House of Townend
Winner:
The Reform at the Castle Hotel, Lincoln
The judges comments included: “The choices made were delicious, well-defined and full-flavoured all with a certain something extra which lifted the dish.”
Runners-up: San Pietro, Scunthorpe and The Black Swan, Beckingham
