Midlands Area Club Point-to-Point at Thorpe Lodge

Some exciting Point-to-Point racing action took place recently, when the Midlands Area Club held their meeting at Thorpe Lodge. From the 132 initial entries, seventy horses lined up for eight races and although the open ditch had to be omitted for all races owing to a patch of false ground, the majority of the track was officially described as ‘good to soft’.

Popular Midlands Area mare Popaway opened proceedings with a win in the Timico Midlands Area Club Members Conditions race, her third win on this course. Ridden by Joe Docker, Popaway was held up early in the race before making headway after the tenth fence and taking up the lead.

Coming in second, Nightcap Jack ran a good race for Dale Peters. In the winner’s enclosure joint owner John Docker’s faith in the course was realised, since he was wearing shoes rather than wellies and the conditions were remarkable considering the weather on previous days.
