Auction takes a stuffing

A most unusual collection of items came under the hammer last month.

Featuring taxidermy and figural models of animals, as well as related prints, dioramas, collectables and bygones, the collection was catalogued into over 400 lots; with all but two finding new owners, the sale generated a total of over £30,000.

Once again, the influence of the online catalogue generated solid interest with the screens flashing with numerous bids from multiple bidders.

The somewhat niche market may not be to everyone’s interest, but with a 99.9% sold rate there were enough bidders worldwide to see the auctioneer knock down the gavel to seal the bid.

Highlights from the auction include a Hippopotamus skull which sold for £1,400, a good bid considering it was lacking some teeth. Monty, the Friesian calf, sold with a bid of £360, and finally a museum model of a blue whale came up for air at £260.

Other results are illustrated, and as one famous TV presenter said “Come and see what you could have won!”
