Building on 40 years of service
Humber Merchants Limited are celebrating another significant milestone in the history of the company as they celebrate their fortieth anniversary as the leading light-side builders’ merchants in the Humber region.
Based in Scunthorpe, with branches in Doncaster and Immingham, as well as Hull based Industrial Supplies Limited, the company has grown from modest beginnings in 1972 to its present forty-four staff and a store inventory of more than 1,600 products.
Humber Merchants Limited are now established as the first port of call for many large and small local companies. Chief executive, Ray Brammall, attributes the company’s success to the outstanding service, dedication and professionalism of the workforce. “We still have customers coming to us who were among our first all those decades ago. We have built a strong reputation for personal service. Customers are more than an account number to us and they know we have the depth of experience and knowledge and that staff will go the extra mile to source a product and to deliver on time.”
The provision of specialist architectural ironmongery is an example of how Humber Merchants can provide a truly tailored and personal service to local architects and builders. These customers value the knowledge and expertise that is applied to their specifications and the niche products they require.
With such as comprehensive stock of products for builders and engineers, hand and power tools, ironmongery, work wear and industrial supplies, one of the innovations during this anniversary year has been the introduction of a full colour catalogue.
“The Product Guide has been introduced in print and is available as an e-book online,” said Ray. “For the first time customers have a handy point of reference for our extensive ranges and if by any chance what they want is not there we shall do our best to source it for them.”
The excellent rapport that staff have built up with customers has been especially celebrated this year, with events and promotions to acknowledge the support they have given the company. Many employees have accrued more than twenty years of service and have developed long established relationships with suppliers as well as customers which all contributes to the flexible and responsive service offered when orders are placed by phone, or at the trade counter.
Ray summed up the company’s vision as it looks to the future: “We have managed to continually grow our client base and even when one sector of commerce is quiet we have the flexibility and range of products to respond quickly to where business is growing.
“The commitment that a local business like Humber Merchants Ltd can make to delivering a high quality, personal service as well as the right products is something that people still value and appreciate.”
