Coffee Shop and Restaurant at Belton Garden Centre
The good things in life are worth a little wait and I never begrudge the few extra minutes it takes to prepare fresh food to order. You can have confidence in the produce and that your meal has not been sitting around waiting for you.
The new Coffee Shop and Restaurant at Belton Garden Centre opened in March and is the third phase of the Elkington family’s improvement plans since they bought the centre in 2007.
Extremely spacious, with ample room between tables, the café has a calm and relaxed atmosphere where guests never seem hurried to move on. The counter and state-of-the-art kitchens have been designed with transparency in mind. Customers can see the delicious range of home-made cakes and scones and members of the eighteen-strong team of chefs and waiting staff preparing orders as they come in.
The menu is the responsibility of Coffee Shop manager, Victoria Elkington. Victoria has followed her farming family’s ethos of purchasing good, local produce so customers can enjoy, for example, Boston sausages in the very popular Belton Bap with onion marmalade and meat supplied by a local butcher. The menu features classic light bite fare such as fresh soup, salads, sandwiches, jacket potatoes with a choice of fillings and toasted paninis. A range of omelettes and children’s meals as well as the daily specials means there is plenty of choice, whatever your taste or mood.
Delicious teas and freshly brewed coffees are tempting accompaniments to a slice of cake, one of the daily special puddings or one of at least three types of scone available. I tucked into a very tasty lasagna with an attractive side dish of mixed salad and a smooth latte.
In keeping with the beautifully maintained and high quality retail areas for plants and gifts, the Coffee Shop has been built to the same exacting standards and replaced the much loved but tired old building which previously housed the café.
Light, airy and spacious, the two-level Coffee Shop and its immaculate lavatories are fully accessible for push chairs and wheelchairs. The interior features exposed brick and oak beams with high quality tartan and soft tweed upholstered armchairs. Surely customers will need no better invitation to sit back and relax while they enjoy some refreshments.
Victoria is already seeing her efforts and those of her team rewarded. As well as appreciative customers, she has been nominated in the Garden Retail Awards as Young Employee of the Year. There are plans to introduce a Sunday lunch menu and a Christmas Lunch will be available during December.
With plenty of free parking and the guarantee of a warm and friendly welcome, the Coffee Shop and Restaurant at Belton Garden Centre is waiting to take your order.
