Sarah Eddy stepped into the relaxing surroundings of Eden Hall Day Spa to sample their recently launched Afternoon Tea.
You no longer have to be a spa guest to enjoy the luxurious surroundings of Eden Hall. The beautiful venue just outside Newark now welcomes visitors for Afternoon Tea from 4pm daily.

As you drive through the gates into the landscaped grounds I always feel you leave many of the cares of the day behind and once inside you feel cocooned even more. Afternoon Tea is served in one of the Hall’s elegant dining rooms on the first floor but the terrace makes a wonderful, alfresco alternative, especially at this time of the year, if the weather permits.

I had invited a friend to share this treat with me and we had forgone lunch in anticipation. Afternoon Teas have become a culinary art in themselves, so we were eager to see what the team at Eden Hall had devised. We were going to sample a selection of the food which includes traditional favourites with contemporary taste twists.

It was so hard to decide where to begin. Brimming with tempting treats we began with sandwiches which contained smoked salmon and cream cheese on brown bread; tangy cheddar with pickle on white; or ham with wholegrain mustard on white. Alongside were skewers of Parma ham, olives and feta cheese (on occasion a fruit version might be offered, subject to ingredient availability). A mini meal in themselves, they added a continental influence to our tea. Next came some delicious plain scones served with traditional strawberry jam and cream. The feeling of relaxation is hard to resist at Eden Hall and we felt ourselves savouring the chance for some time out from our normal routine as we made the most of the Afternoon Tea experience.

A nice interim dish between the savoury and sweet was an individual glass jar of plain yoghurt topped with fruit compote and blueberries; cleansing for the palate and healthy. There was plenty of opportunity for guilty pleasure to follow, with a choice of salted caramel brownies, macaroons, chocolate cups or individual chocolates. More than we could possibly eat but what a treat it had been.

Priced at £15.95 per person, this tea looks like an affordable indulgence too, for yourself, a friend or a group. The surroundings are beautiful and if you want to enjoy a glass of Prosecco with your tea, this is available for a further £4 per person. Eden Hall also offers an evening spa experience which would be ideal to combine with Afternoon Tea to fully immerse yourself in your mini day break.

Afternoon Tea at Eden Hall needs to be pre-ordered by 12noon the day prior to your visit.
