Glitz and glamour at Meet & Meat
Barbara Young dines out at Boston’s Meet & Meat, a contemporary Mediterranean steakhouse and grill featuring modern Turkish cuisine.
Oozing big city style and sophistication, diners get their first taste of what’s to come from the moment they step through the brightly lit black and gold floor to ceiling glass entrance and into Meet & Meat’s chic interior.
With its stylish art deco design featuring a fusion of lush gold and rose gold tones, with sumptuous luminous lighting and polished black marble flooring, the vibe is very much one of a top-tier dining experience… and its extensive authentic menu doesn’t disappoint either!
Opened in late 2022, this popular premium restaurant occupies the ground floor of a former furniture shop, which has undergone an estimated £1.5 million refurbishment and taken three years to complete. It also includes a glamorous 250-300 capacity nightclub, Medusa, on the first floor with a trendy cocktail bar, Unique, on the top floor, which comes alive at weekends.
Diners are also treated to occasional entertainment such as traditional belly dancers and musicians, as well as aerialists and fire dancers.
True tastes of Turkey
Although the 12-page menu offers diners the choice of pasta, vegetarian, vegan and fish dishes, this is very much a meat lovers’ paradise with an array of freshly cooked charcoaled meats, including chicken, lamb and aged beef, which you can watch being prepared by skilled Turkish chefs in the open kitchen.
The drinks menu is extensive too, with a range of fine wines, beers, shorts, shots, cocktails and mocktails from which we chose a Virgin Piña Colada and Virgin Passion Fruit Mojito, which were both refreshing and beautifully presented.
Presentation is very much part of Meet & Meat’s overall dining experience and the smiley staff are always on hand to explain and advise diners on their choices.
Keen to sample a selection of traditional dishes, we began our meal with a shared Cold Meze Platter, which not only looked like a work of art, but tasted fantastic.
This generous platter, served with home-made Turkish Pide bread, featured hummus (chickpeas, tahini, garlic, olive oil and lemon juice), cacik (yoghurt and cucumber with garlic and mint), baba ganoush (roasted aubergines and peppers), shakshuka (aubergines, courgettes and garlic with tomato sauce) and muhammara (red peppers and walnuts flavoured with pomegranate molasses and warm spices).
To follow we selected a traditional dish from the chef’s specials selection; Lamb Beyti (minced lamb, wrapped in lavash, a famous Turkish puffed flatbread, spiced tomato sauce with yoghurt and served with rice and salad.
There’s also a great selection of meats from the charcoal grill, with gluten-free options available. We selected marinated lamb ribs, a substantial dish featuring six gorgeous glistening pieces, perfect for carnivores, together with a Gavurdaği salad with tomatoes, walnuts, pomegranate and molasses, which was a meal on its own and the perfect accompaniment to roasted meat.
After a much needed pause to relax and digest, we somehow managed to order dessert too. We selected traditional oven baked Kunefe, a shredded wheat pasty filled with Turkish goats cheese, soaked in syrup and topped with chopped pistachios, served with ice cream, plus a warm chocolate brownie with cracked almonds and chocolate sauce – so indulgent!
Dining at Meet & Meat is a memorable experience, not only for guests to enjoy its well designed menu brimming with flavours, but also its opulent ambience and attentive service.
It’s the perfect place to unwind, meet up with friends and family, or celebrate a special occasion accompanied by colourful Turkish entertainment. And if you want to continue the revelries and make a night of it, then why not change into your dancing shoes and let your hair down while discovering your inner ‘Travolta’ and throwing some shapes on the upstairs dance floor!
