NEW INVESTMENTS
Many areas of the city continue to attract new business and budding entrepreneurs, with branches of multi-national shops continuing to invest in bringing in their brands.
Last year, City of Lincoln Council’s transformative Cornhill Market project won the Regeneration and Restoration Project of the Year award at the East Midlands Property Awards.
The award celebrates the successful £8.75 million regeneration of the Grade II listed Cornhill Market which was delivered with funding and support from Town Deal and Historic England.
The project was completed with the support of project partners, including Lindum Group and the scheme designers John Roberts Architects, who together transformed the historic market into a vibrant and sustainable destination for retail, dining and community events.
Construction on the Market project began in 2022, with the vision of revitalising the building in the heart of Lincoln. The project aimed to create a commercially viable and environmental space, catering to a variety of uses and meeting the evolving needs of both businesses and consumers.
Key to the project’s success was preserving the market’s original 1930s façade, signs, and clock while incorporating modern enhancements. The modernised space now features an indoor market with bespoke timber stalls, a food court, a new mezzanine, and upgraded public amenities.
The project also placed a strong emphasis on sustainability, with a thermally efficient double-glazed roof, reducing the need for excessive heating. Additionally, 100% of the waste generated during construction was recycled, and efforts to reduce the project’s carbon footprint, including car-sharing initiatives and walking to work, saved over 23 metric tons of CO2.
The refurbishment not only focused on a positive environmental impact but also aimed to create a thriving public space. The City Square area, next to the Market, also benefitted from repaving which was designed to accommodate outdoor stalls, al fresco dining, and community events, enhancing the social and commercial activity in the city.
VISION FOR THE FUTURE
The City of Lincoln Council recently called on residents to play a vital role in shaping the city’s future by sharing their feedback on the council’s proposals for Vision 2030.
According to the council, this is a shared roadmap for building a stronger, more vibrant city that reflects the aspirations of its residents. This new strategic plan will guide key priorities and projects over the next five years, ensuring that the council’s goals align with the aspirations and needs of the people it serves.
City of Lincoln Council anticipates both policy and financial settlement changes over the coming months and as such have proposed some key actions for the first 12-18 months of Vision 2030 which will then be reviewed.
Like other councils, City of Lincoln Council faces rising service costs and reduced funding, creating a gap between income and expenditure. To maintain a sustainable financial position, the council’s strategy aims to balance investment in Vision 2030 and its priorities while ensuring that service costs are in line with available funding.
WELCOMING NEW BRANDS
Lifestyle brand Rituals is set to open a stylish new store at Waterside Shopping Centre, adding its renowned range of luxurious body and homecare products to the centre’s retail and leisure offering.
Founded in Amsterdam in 2000, Rituals is now established in over 40 countries, with more than 1,300 stores and 3,900 shop-in-shops at locations such as London’s Oxford Street and Covent Garden, as well as York, Cambridge and Edinburgh.
The news comes as Waterside’s joint venture owners, Wykeland Group and Lincolnshire Co-op, continue to deliver a sustained investment programme into the centre, including creating a more open and attractive frontage from High Street and implementing aesthetic improvements along the picturesque River Witham.
Last summer also saw the opening of a new, quality coffee shop, operated by independent Lincolnshire-based business Seven Districts Coffee, in the heart of the centre.
MODERN LINCOLN
Modern Lincoln is a mix of lively entertainment and cultural attractions, thanks largely to the regeneration of the Cultural Quarter and the Brayford Waterfront.
A wide variety of arts and entertainment activities are provided in the city through venues such as the refurbished Drill, The New Theatre Royal, Lincoln Museum and the university’s Lincoln Arts Centre.
Renowned for its industrial heritage as well as being the birthplace of the tank, the city continues to lead on innovation through its expanding university and the development of centres such as The Terrace and The Think Tank.
Meanwhile, a new neighbourhood is being created through the largest development project to take place in Lincoln for decades, called Charterholme.
Previously referred to as the Western Growth Corridor, Charterholme has been more than 100 years in the making and will evolve over the next 25 years to create 3,200 homes, shops, a business park, leisure village, community services and improved transport infrastructure. The name combines ‘Charter’, meaning the granting of authority or rights, and ‘holme’, an old English word for land as utilised in the neighbouring Hartsholme Park and Swanholme Lakes.
It is also a nod to The Charter of the Forest, an important medieval document that gave ordinary people the right to forage for food and graze animals on areas of land designated as royal forest, therefore offering some protection against economic hardship.
Lincoln Cathedral owns one of only two surviving copies of the 1217 Charter, which is on display at Lincoln Castle along with the Lincoln copy of Magna Carta from 1215.
Economic benefits of the Charterholme project include more than £500m investment for the city, hundreds of new local jobs, and opportunities for first-time buyers.
The provision of new walking, cycling and bus routes as realistic travel options into the city centre aims to reduce car dependency. Housing will be equipped with sustainable features like air source heat pumps and EV chargers.
Newly built green spaces are designed to enhance wildlife and biodiversity, as well as offer an attractive environment for outdoor activities.
Cllr Naomi Tweddle, City of Lincoln Council leader, said: “We’re delighted to launch Charterholme, and start a new chapter for this exciting project within the city.
“Working with partners to bring our vision for this area of the city to life has been incredibly rewarding.
“Charterholme will be somewhere our communities can thrive and have a real sense of belonging, and its creation is a key priority for the council. The Charterholme name will help provide a strong sense of place for all those who choose to live there.”

The prestigious Lincoln Minster School, based in the city’s uphill historic quarter, offers an all-through education in a nurturing and stimulating environment.
Lincoln Minster School, an independent co-educational HMC day school for pupils aged 4-18 years, received a wealth of positive feedback during a recent Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) inspection in November 2024.
Published in January this year, the ISI inspection report highlights the school’s many strengths, with particular praise for pupils’ academic achievements and personal development. Although the new ISI framework does not include overall grading, the report recognises a number of key strengths, including:
- Pupils’ strong work ethic and commitment to their education, achieving well at both GCSE and A-Level.
- The confidence and articulacy of pupils, who are comfortable expressing their ideas in a supportive environment both inside and outside the classroom.
- Positive behaviour, with a strong climate of kindness, respect and inclusivity.
- A well-established culture of safeguarding, ensuring pupils’ safety and well-being.
- The skill and dedication of the teaching staff, who effectively deliver the curriculum.
In addition, the inspectors commended the leadership team for their clear vision and commitment to ensuring the school’s success in meeting the standards.
Jon Tyler, head of Lincoln Minster School, said: “I am delighted with the results of our latest ISI inspection. We received a huge amount of positive feedback and unequivocally met all of the inspection standards, which rightly reflects the tremendous community that we are fortunate to have at Lincoln Minster School. Perhaps the most pleasing aspect of the inspection for me was how incredibly well we scored in the inspection team’s pupil, staff and parental surveys. I am hugely grateful to our staff and pupils for all their excellent work, and to parents for their wonderful support.”

DISCOVER A HISTORIC HIDDEN GEM
Occupying the site of the south Roman gateway of Lindum Colonia, the Guildhall and Stonebow is one of the most important late medieval gateways still standing in England.
The Mayor and council first started meeting on the site over 780 years ago, and the last recorded major work was completed in 1520. The Guildhall, situated above the arch, is still the meeting place of the City Council and the official home of the Right Worshipful the Mayor of Lincoln, one of the oldest Mayoralties in existence.
Home to a collection of nationally important Royal Charters starting in 1157 AD, and Civic Regalia including the sword of King Richard II and mace of King Charles I, the Guildhall offers visitors an insight into over 1,800 years of Lincoln’s history. Recognised by Visit England with awards for Hidden Gem and Best Told Story, a tour of the Guildhall is not to be missed.
During March, free tours are offered twice a day on Friday and Saturday. Your chance to explore Lincoln’s history from a new perspective.

FRAMING YOUR FACE: THE ART OF SPECTACLE STYLING
Choosing the right glasses isn’t just about vision – it’s about style, confidence and self-expression. There aren’t many items that can change the way we look as much as our eyewear does. Expert frame styling ensures that your glasses enhance your features and personality.
Here’s how the expert stylists at David Burghardt Vision Care can help you find your perfect eyewear wardrobe.
Personal style
Our individual personality defines who we are, the way we act and the clothes we wear. Our eyewear choices are no exception and should be an extension of your personal style. Artistic Face à Face frames bring colourful confidence, while bold, oversized Kirk & Kirk frames express creativity. Minimalist Lindberg rimless offer a sleek, professional look, while Classic MOSCOT designs add a vintage flair. Our frame stylists are able to showcase frames that truly represent you and align with your personal brand.
Shape
The shape of your frames should complement your face shape to create balance and harmony. Frames can be matched to the shape of your face or your browline. The shape might also be driven by the overall style you want to express. From a classic round to an upswept cat’s eye, the shape of your frame can change the look of your face. A frame stylist will assess your features and recommend a shape that enhances your natural features.
Colour
The right frame colour can illuminate your complexion and reflect your personal style. Warm skin tones pair beautifully with earthy shades like gold, tortoiseshell, and rich browns, while cooler complexions shine in blues, silvers and jewel tones. Bold colours can make a statement, whereas neutral tones offer timeless elegance. Our stylists consider your skin tone, hair colour and wardrobe to find the perfect frames to complement your style.
With expert styling, your glasses become more than just eyewear – they become an extension of you.
