Eye care excellence in focus

Clients of David Burghardt Vision Care will now enjoy a more enhanced experience following the completion of a new Frame Boutique and Clinical Suite.
The Nettleham based independent optometrists have been established in the charming Grade II listed cottage in the heart of the village on Church Street for more than 30 years. As the expertise and sophistication of services offered by the practice have grown, radical decisions have been made to further develop the practice environment to reflect this quality.

“We wanted to improve what we call the client experience when they visit the practice,” explained David Burghardt. “This presented some challenges in a period property, but we have worked with our architects and interior designers to create welcoming and accessible space all based across the ground floor.”

Customer focused remodelling
The transformation has taken place during the past 15 months, maintaining clinical services throughout. The practice has now improved wheelchair accessibility with priority parking and restroom facilities. Visitors entering from the street step into a stylish reception area which also showcases some of the finest independent frame collections. To the right is the styling suite with a comfortable frame try-on area. Two new state-of-the-art consultation rooms and two imaging suites have been added to the rear of the cottage, accessed via a natural light-flooded glass atrium. This has created a circular, flow giving seamless access to all the practice’s services; from greeting, to consultation, diagnosis and dispensing, clients can relax in tranquil, air conditioned surroundings tastefully decorated in a contemporary colour scheme. Stripped brick walls contrast with natural wood and gold finish fitments accented with blue and gold luxurious branding. Highlights of white to some furniture and walls are further brightened by modern feature bulb lighting.

Innovation and efficiency
“We have reimagined the practice layout to be completely customer orientated. Initial responses show that patients are finding it pleasurable and convenient to use in the same way that we are finding it a more efficient working environment,” said Practice Manager, Richard Spencer.

The refit will enable the multi award-winning practice to progress with their innovative eye care, delivering clinical excellence to patients from the local community and beyond for many more years.

CLINICAL EXPERTISE
No two patients are the same and the team at David Burghardt Vision Care have the skills and resources to investigate, diagnose and devise solutions tailored to each individual.

The recent refurbishment of the practice has further enhanced the team’s ability to provide eye care from start to finish utilising cutting edge equipment. Imaging Practitioner, Vikki Rowe said: “We are the only practice in Lincolnshire to have invested in an optomap®, 200 degree, ultra high definition retinal scanner to picture the back of the eye. Our Triton OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) machine is like a CT scanner which allows our experienced eye care practitioners to assess and monitor the layers of the eye. Combined with other diagnostic techniques such as TearLab®, measuring the saltiness of the eye which will effect dry eye conditions and BlephEx™, which is used to clean the eyelids and lashes of infection, there are other specialised pieces of equipment like the Rodenstock ImpressionIST® 3D system allows our lens experts to create bespoke lens designs for each client.

Patient Lifestyle
Patients come to the practice either by private appointments or through referral by the NHS. Independent practices like David Burghardt Vision Care have the expertise to provide fast and efficient services recommending the best solutions for each patient. This may range from a treatment to improve a sight problem or longer-term care to manage a health complaint, ensuring the optimum quality of sight possible for the individual. “Sight is so integral to our lifestyles that receiving prompt, correct diagnosis and effective treatment plans can be the difference between maintaining and losing vision.”

Unique Service
Patients will now be guided seamlessly through the practice from their arrival at reception. They are personally taken by an Imaging Practitioner to one of the high tech imaging suites. The routine is fully explained to the patient and any questions they may have will be answered. Next, the Optometrist will use all information to give the patient a comprehensive eye examination.

The Dispensing Optician discusses the recommendations with the Optometrist and patient when the consultation is complete. The patient will then be seated in the styling suite and offered a tea or coffee. Following a styling conversation the Dispensing Optician hand picks frames for the client to try.

“We believe our attention to detail for our clients is unique and we want them to feel appreciated and cared for at every stage of their appointment, as well as having the assurance they are receiving the best quality eye care,” said Hannah Anderson-Smith.

AWARD-WINNING TEAM
David Burghardt Vision Care is already an award-winning team, with hopefully further accolades from their industry in the near future.

The practice has built an exceptional family of staff, each of whom have their own specialism. Optometrists, David Burghardt, Penny Shaw and Pravin Vekria work alongside Dispensing Opticians, Richard Spencer and Tanith Sharp.

Dispensing Assistant, Hannah Anderson-Smith has been with the practice 29 years and sees many of the patients as old friends. She works alongside the experienced Clinical Team of Vikki Rowe, Lucy Hardy, Lucie Reed and Alissa Stevens.

The team meet each morning to be briefed on client appointments, to decide appropriate diagnostic imaging and agree their duties for the day. Each patient will be looked after from the moment they arrive to the time they leave. The team also have a close connection to the local community, organising events such as Open Evenings and a popular annual, charity Vintage Tea Party.

Shortlisted
This year, David Burghardt Vision Care have been shortlisted for Sightcare Awards. Their placing for the Practice Team of the Year Award 2019 will be announced at a special awards night, to be held in Telford later this month.

b>Above and Beyond
“We have a wonderful rapport with many of our patients and that reflects in the commitment members of our team make to go above and beyond the service we offer,” said David Burghardt. “That may be visiting clients in their homes to fit glasses or to deliver contact lenses in the evening. We know some clients may struggle to arrive within our usual opening hours so staff have stayed open late sometimes to accommodate them.”

While the team are enjoying their new workspace, the feedback from patients has been equally appreciative. Comments such as ‘Top class equipment, knowledge, ability and professionalism continue to inspire confidence and display excellence’ assure the team that they are providing the best eye care experience possible.
