Camp Beaumont
Fun and adventure for young people is closer to your doorstep than you perhaps thought.
Ideal for giving 7 to 17-year-olds their own independence and experience of time away from home, the two market leaders in activity holidays for young people, PGL and Camp Beaumont, both have facilities within easy travelling distance.
Camp Beaumont’s most recently opened centre is located in the Dearne Valley in an outstanding fifty-acre, greenbelt site which was once home to the Earth Centre visitor attraction. Designed as an international showcase for sustainable development practices, Kingswood, the parent company of Camp Beaumont, has embraced this former colliery site with its on-site waste water recycling plant – the Living Machine – and award-winning architect designed main building to revitalise the site.
After a £10 million investment which funded purpose-built accommodation blocks, a state-of-the-art sports park plus installation of an indoor activity centre has created a whole world for young people to explore in a supervised and secure location. With over 36 activities on offer at Dearne Valley, kids will be assured of an action packed programme with plenty of fun packed into each day.
Challenges range from large rope courses plus zip wires to climbing and bouldering walls. Bushcraft skills are taught by the always enthusiastic and friendly Camp Beaumont staff, who share some of the secrets of survival with fire lighting and shelter building sessions. Tuition in fencing, orienteering, archery and circus skills gives kids the chance to learn new skills while Mind Challenge tests their cognitive powers and encourages teamwork.
Multi-activity mini breaks are available for four-day stays while themed adventure holidays are available for a week. Why not go for a day to celebrate a birthday party and get a flavour of what’s on offer? Campers are split into age related groupings for intriguingly sounding weeks such as Survival Zone, Glee Club, Mountain Adventure, Pamper Party or the Beaumont Boot Camp.
In their own leisure time, there is plenty of opportunity to explore the site which is bounded by secure fencing and CCTV monitored. To refuel the tired and hungry campers, the diner serves three meals a day of fresh, tasty and nutritious food.
Evening entertainment can include a campfire or drum jam, or just the opportunity to relax with friends, enjoy a film or a session on the Wii. When it’s time to turn in, the comfortable accommodation is in dorms of 4 to 8 bunk beds, all with en suite facilities.
When the long school holidays stretch out ahead, here is the ideal solution to give kids a summer of fun and parents peace of mind.
