When Toyota set about creating the GT86, the guiding principle was that it should be a car devoted to the pure passion of driving. It’s an ethos that has helped earn the sports coupe worldwide acclaim, including the honour of being named TopGear magazine’s Car of the Year.
On Saturday 8th June, Andrea Duff (Scunthope), Damien Wilkinson (Market Rasen) and Russell Andrew (Lincoln) took to Silverstone Circuit to put the GT86 through its paces, courtesy of Toyota Lincoln. Together with 100 other guests, they spent time enjoying a variety of activities within the Silverstone complex. Starting off with a drive around the iconic circuit, guests were tutored by professional drivers to ensure they got the most out of the car as they took on Hangar Straight and the 1.8-mile International Circuit.

Next, guests headed over to the skid pan area for a demonstration of the drifting capabilities of the GT86, and the car’s ability to adapt to low-grip driving conditions. There was also the opportunity for guests to passenger with a professional driver and experience the full extent of the car’s ability to entertain. Whilst the guests had full trust in the professional drivers’ skills, a few delighted screams were heard as the back end of the GT86 started its controlled drift.

Finally, the guests were back in the driving seat for the competitive part of the afternoon, the mini sprint. Drivers were timed as they negotiated a twisting course marked out with cones. The winner was the one who completed the course quickest, with penalties for clipping the marking cones. The tension was palpable, as the guests looked to master the course and claim victory. The prize? A GT86 watch presented to the winner on the Silverstone podium.

“We were delighted to have been able to invite some customers to this brilliant event. Anyone who has driven the GT86 will know how exciting the car is to drive, but of course, you can’t experience its full capabilities on the public roads and to be able to put it through its paces on a race track was truly a thrill.” James Boughton-Thomas, Centre Principal at Toyota Lincoln
