The iconic British luxury sports car

Aston Martin, the quintessentially British motor manufacturer, was founded over 100 years ago and since then has risen to iconic status as a symbol of style and luxury with a Royal Warrant to supply cars to the Prince of Wales.
At Woldside Classic and Sports Car in Louth they currently have in the showroom a fine example of the marque, an Aston Martin V8 Vantage finished in Onyx black.

Aston Martin was established in 1913 by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford. The pair started the business selling Singer cars but decided to make their own vehicles, naming them Aston Martin after owner Lionel Martin, with the ‘Aston’ coming from the Aston Hill racetrack where Martin raced specials.

The company struggled financially during the interwar years and finally in 1947 was taken over by Huddersfield tractor manufacturer David Brown Limited, hence the DB initials which have since been used to denote their legendary sports model, made especially famous by James Bond, having featured in many of the films starting with the DB5 in 1964 in Goldfinger. And how can Aston fans forget the heartbreaking destruction of the same DB5 in Skyfall (don’t worry, it was a plastic replica made by 3D printer)!

Since those days Aston Martin has changed ownership several times yet maintained its reputation for producing beautiful and stylish luxury cars. Whilst under the ownership of the Ford Motor Company, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage was launched at the Geneva Motorshow for the 2006 model year.

The Vantage was the smallest of Aston’s offerings powered by a 4,300cc V8 engine producing 380HP. For lightness and strength the car was built around a bonded aluminium structure, there were just two seats with luggage space in the rear and a hatchback type tailgate. Performance was strong, with a 0-60 sprint in 4.7 seconds on its way to a 175mph top speed; large Brembo brakes stopped the car with ease. At launch, the transmission was originally a six-speed manual gearbox but demand soon saw the introduction of the ‘Sportshift’ semi-automatic gearbox.

Woldside Classic and Sports Car’s 2007 V8 Vantage Coupe is fitted with the Sportshift transmission. They previously supplied the car in 2012 and have undertaken the care of the car since. The current mileage is now just 21,000 and must be one of the lowest mileage, early cars available.

The specification is near perfect. The black leather heated seats have memory for driver and passenger, there is contrast stitching in red to the seats, dashboard and door panels. Sat Nav, Bluetooth and cruise control are additional interior features while on the exterior the car has Xenon lights and the 19″ alloy wheels show off the gleaming metallic black paintwork. A discreet clear vinyl has been fitted to the nose area of the car from new so, unusually, there is minimal stone chipping.

The low mileage of this car is due to having been used mainly by the previous owner at his second home in southern Portugal. To keep the mileage down even more, Woldside Classics have arranged to have the car delivered annually by car transporter to Portugal and then collected again at MOT time! The service history is Aston Martin with some interim work carried out by them, the last AM service was at 17,000 miles and the car will be supplied with a new service by AM. 
