Burton Point-to-Point
Point-to-Point racing in the Midlands area got off to a good start with a bumper Burton meeting at North Carlton. The 169 entries yielded ninety-six runners on ‘good to soft’ ground and the pleasant winter sunshine ensured a good crowd attended.
Jockey Pete Mann took his tally for the season to three after riding two winners starting with the opening Lincolnshire United Hunts Club Members’ race. Roby De Cimbre and Tom Strawson made most of the running while Pete Mann had his mount Definite Dawn held up before making headway at the last open ditch and closing on the leader to take it up approaching the last fence.
Definite Dawn is trained by Pauline Harkin for Christopher Padfield, a Burton supporter, and the horse received a warm welcome as he returned to the winners’ enclosure.
