Discover the ‘Unique’ service for Auction, Estate and Valuations

Est. 1968, 50 years serving the public.
Unique Auctions based in Lincoln has reached another milestone in its growth, with more services added to its portfolio as the complete house clearance auction company for Lincolnshire and beyond.

Knowledge and experience
Since locating Unique Auctions in Lincoln in 2005, Terry Woodcock and his team have earned the trust and respect of clients for their care and professionalism. In 2016 the business relocated to custom-built new premises in Teal Park, close to the city’s western bypass, from where they have continued to broaden their range of services.

In 2018 Terry celebrated 50 years of his business and had chance to reflect on how technology has changed the way the industry operates. “I have embraced the role of the internet, eBay and social media platforms which have helped Unique Auctions become a successful and thriving auction house with an international reputation.”

Valuations
Experience has proved the old adage that ‘one man’s rubbish is another man’s treasure’ and the team at Unique Auctions have plenty of examples where they have rescued valuable items from being lost forever.

“We try to encourage people to contact us before they start to throw items away,” said Terry. “The temptation when you are downsizing is to clear first and get advice second. By inviting us to give you a quotation at the outset, our advice can help your decision making, we are experts in logistics and we will maximise value for your items.”

Unique Auctions provide a valuation service for antiques, art, collectables, jewellery and porcelain as well as full valuations for probate and insurance. Backed up by the expert knowledge of their researchers, whether for a single item or complete collections, Unique Auctions offer a free, no obligation valuation service at home or in their offices.

One-stop shop
The core business remains a complete house clearance and auction company but as demand grew for associated services, Unique Auctions have expanded their team and built the expertise to handle every aspect of probate and estate for private clients as well as liaison with solicitors, banks, will writers, funeral directors, estate agents and local councils. “Our team give each client reassurance and respect for their situation. We know how upsetting and perhaps costly bereavement or relocation can be, so we act with sensitivity and care throughout from initial enquiry to fulfilment of the contract. Many clients tell us that helping to realise the true value of their items can help them reconcile some of their anguish.”

Under the hammer
Items brought into the showrooms on Vincent Court are categorised and catalogued for display and inclusion in upcoming auctions. “There is value in almost everything,” said Terry, “and we welcome everyone to come along to one of our regular sales. There is no need to be daunted. We have plenty of staff to help you register for a bidding number – or just come along to look round and enjoy the buzz of live bids in the saleroom.”

There is a regular programme of weekday and weekend auctions listed on the website as well as regular specialist sales. Auctioneers and valuers Terry Dean, Daniel Hutchinson, Darryl Kirk and Terry Woodcock himself, each have their own area of expertise and are deft at conducting the range of commission, online and bids from the room. “This is where we realise value for our clients and with our international clients and shipping service we are confident we can optimise results to greatest effect.”

Property auctions
The quest to maximise value and minimise costs for clients has been the broadening of the type of assets which Unique Auctions auction. A natural progression has been into classic car and property where auctions are being held every quarter. There is also a storage service which can help in the transition when downsizing or giving up the family home.

Repurposing and investing
Quality items will nearly always have an enduring value as well as purpose. Unique Auctions’ service not only recycles items back to productive use but also allows them to once again give pleasure to an owner. Some items do have to be disposed of, others may be given as donations to charities but by and large items are sold through auction. With interest and bond rates low, there is also an attraction among some people in investing in auction lots which they believe will hold or accrue value. “High quality gold items and paintings are popular as is wine and whiskey at the moment. If you have any mint condition toys from the ’50s or ’60s those are in demand at present.”

New additional showroom
Terry, his staff and clients have recently benefitted from doubling the showroom at Unique Auctions. The secure, undercover space is ideal for displaying the classic car, vintage and antique furniture as well as clocks and collectables to great effect.

“I know sometimes people do not know they need our service until there is a crisis in the family but I invite everyone to pay a visit to our auction house. It could be the start of a new experience of collecting, repurposing and perhaps investing in some wonderful items.”
