South Wold Point-to-Point

Featured in:
April 2014

The South Wold Point-to-Point went ahead despite the persistent wet weather, which led to the abandonment of three fixtures scheduled to take place across the country on the same weekend.
The old Brocklesby turf dried out to give ‘good to soft’ going, on which sixty-four horses took part in the six races.

At the end of the meeting two riders, George Greenock and Fred Henderson, were sharing the lead for the Brocklesby leading rider award – the Lilian Pickering Memorial Perpetual Challenge trophy – presented at the end of the Brocklesby meeting on 23rd March.

George Greenock’s win came on Shillingstone in the Malting’s Off Road Ltd Confined race. The twelve-year-old, who missed 2013 with a slight tendon injury, had finished second on a previous visit to Brocklesby Park in 2012.

Greenock works for Lycetts Insurance Brokers based in Fakenham, who also sponsor him. Shillingstone is owned by Greenock’s mother, Countess Cathcart, and trained by Gerald Bailey.
