Description

Our cover image really spells spring and we have included plenty to celebrate indoors and outdoors in this issue. Steffie Shields offers some wonderful tips for those of you heading to the garden centre this month, including purchasing a ‘Pearl Bush’ or ‘Pearl Tree’. Steffie recalls an Exochorda tree planted at Fulbeck Hall after the war – perhaps as a celebration of peace. How timely to consider planting these shrubs now.

Our interviews this month highlight the wealth of talent we have in the county. To my recollection we have never included a feature on astrophotography in Lincolnshire Life before so the Rev Charles Thody’s story and images of the night sky over the county are especially fascinating.

Tim Saunders met sculptor Teresa Wells, whose work will form the centrepiece of the Blue Peter Garden at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

I had the pleasure of meeting up with actor-director Ben Poole, who is the driving force behind the Starring Lincoln Theatre Company. The curtain will rise on their latest production, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, at Lincoln Cathedral on 23rd May. With a cast and choir 200-strong, the audience can look forward to an incredible show and music. The article begins on page 86.

Our diary and events pages are packed this month as new festivals launch and attractions gear up for a full season’s programme. The inaugural Lincolnshire Wolds Outdoor Festival kicks off on 30th April with a schedule of walks, tours, cycle rides, pop-up theatre, dance and much more. Read all about the festival on page 88.

I hope that you are one of the many readers who enter our competitions. We have a very special one this month with some wonderful prizes courtesy of our friends at Downtown and KitchenAid. We are looking for a bake or pudding which will grace your table in time for the Platinum Jubilee weekend. Let us have your recipe and you could be one of our three lucky winners who will feature in our June issue. Your recipe could be one passed down in your family or a creation all of your own. We have our judges lined up, so get your entries in by 28th April.

Finally, all of the team at Lincolnshire Life wish you a happy, peaceful Easter and a wonderful month.
